Golden Globe Awards 2024

The Golden Globe Awards nominations for 2024 were dominated by Greta Gerwig’s “Barbie” and Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer,” both securing multiple nods. The revamped awards show, now a for-profit entity, showcased a more diverse voting body. Cedric the Entertainer and Wilmer Valderrama revealed nominations for the January awards show.

In the film categories, notable contenders for Best Motion Picture Drama included “Oppenheimer,” “Killers of the Flower Moon,” and “Maestro,” while “Barbie” stood out in the Best Motion Picture Musical or Comedy category.

“Succession” led the television nominations, while Netflix emerged as the top nominee. Surprises included Jennifer Lawrence’s nomination for “No Hard Feelings” and some underperformance from highly anticipated films like “The Color Purple” and “American Fiction.”

Notable omissions included Ridley Scott’s “Napoleon” and its lack of nominations, despite star Joaquin Phoenix’s recognition for another film. The voting body expanded to 300 members following backlash over lack of diversity.

Despite changes, the Golden Globes faced controversies such as ethical lapses and declining viewership. The broadcast moved to CBS for the first time, with ongoing turmoil behind the scenes.

Additional nominees encompassed categories like Animated Film, Non-English Language Film, Best Actor/Actress in TV Drama, Best Actor/Actress in TV Comedy, Screenplay, and Best Stand-Up Comedy Television Special.
